The RYA Day Skipper shore-based theory course is aimed at the complete beginner or those with some sailing or motor cruising experience who have not previously taken a shore-based course. It is the advised course for everyone to take before committing themselves to the Practical RYA Day Skipper course for sail or power.
The subjects covered during the Day Skipper theory course will include: Charts and Navigation Instruments, Buoys and Channel Markers; Tides and Depths of Water, Electronic Chart Plotters, Weather at Sea and the Basic Collision Rules. At Bisham Abbey we run the RYA Day Skipper course over five days; either two and a half alternate weekends or intensively over five consecutive days. Course numbers are small and often we will have two instructors to the group.
The RYA Day Skipper course pack is included in the fee. Over recent years we have developed a variety of teaching aids to enable us to make your theory course as interesting as possible. A range of books is also available for you to peruse and purchase at the School during your course if you wish.
All you need to bring for the Day Skipper theory course is a pair of dividers and a Portland type plotter. We do not provide these but can order them for you, if you wish, for the start of the course.
Hours daily are 0900 - 1700hrs.
Please bring a packed lunch.
