RYA RADAR

One day course, small numbers.
The aim of this course is to give an understanding of the use of Radar in small boats as an aid to navigation and for collision avoidance.
This course is intended to equip the yachtsman with sufficient knowledge so that, with practice, he can fulfil the requirements of the Collision Regulations when using Radar in conditions of reduced visibility and learn how to utilize its benefits to the full as an aid to navigation.

Hours daily 0930-1700hrs

Please bring a packed lunch

Subjects covered will be:
Developing an understanding of how Radar works
Set up procedure, various functions and use of controls
Interpreting what you see on the screen
Target definition and discrimination
Radar reflectors – active and passive
Use of Radar for navigation & collision avoidance
Advantages & disadvantages of Radar
Use & limitations of Automatic Radar Plotting Aids (ARPA)
