Lyme Regis Life Boat Naming Ceremony

Hundreds of people lined the shores of a Dorset seaside town for the naming ceremony of a new lifeboat.

A dedication ceremony was held on the slipway at Lyme Regis for the Atlantic 85 Class lifeboat.

The RNLI vessel arrived in the town on 3 March and has already answered 15 emergency calls.

The £180,000 inshore lifeboat will be named Spirit of Loch Fyne, after the restaurant chain that sponsored it.  The RNLI rely completely on voluntary contributions so if like us you are already a supporter......well done!  If you are not a member of the RNLI please consider supporting this worthwhile charity.

The boat, which carries a crew of four, is capable of speeds of up to 35 knots and is fitted with the latest radar and VHF direction finding equipment.

The lifeboat station at Lyme Regis has a 30-strong volunteer crew of men and women including builders, carpenters, students and decorators.
