This course follows the RYA syllabus and is designed to provide a practical working knowledge of First Aid for all sailors and motor cruisers, particularly those taking small craft offshore up to 60 miles from a safe haven. The course is based on the recommendations of the Health and Safety Executive and the
Department of Trade. It meets the requirements for RYA Dinghy, Windsurfing, Sportsboat and Cruising Instructors. It fulfills the requirements of the Department of Trade Code of Practice for Small Commercial Vessels (the "Commercial Endorsement").

At Bisham Abbey we run the RYA First Aid course (previously known as Small Craft First Aid) over one day, weekdays or weekends. Course numbers are small and as the course involves some practical work it is advisable to wear comfortable clothing and soft soled shoes. A copy of the latest edition of the First Aid Manual forms the course syllabus and is a requirement of the course. A copy can be ordered through us if required (@£12. 99) at the time of booking for collection on the day of the course. The course is structured to include in greater detail points relevant to sailing, i. e. hypothermia, drowning and treating injuries in a confined space.
This course is an approved MCA Boatmaster Licence ancillary course, qualifying the holder for all water categories – A, B, C and D. Please bring a packed lunch.
Hours daily are 0900 - approx 1700hrs. Course dates are as follows:
