The aim of this course is to help prevent you breaking down at sea. If you do have mechanical problems, this course will teach you, using the variety of engines we have in our workshop, how to go about getting started again. The RNLI tell us that one of the main reasons for lifeboat call-outs to both sailing and powerboats is machinery failure. Completing this course should help you avoid becoming another statistic! The course is equally valuable to the sailor with an auxiliary diesel and the motor cruising enthusiast. Don't worry if you have no knowledge of engines or mechanical ability - you will be surprised how straightforward most of the checks and adjustments are.
At Bisham Abbey we run the Diesel Engine Maintenance course over ONE DAY either weekdays or weekends. As with all our courses numbers are small.
We have three static engines in our workshop together with an extensive collection of engine components. It is not an RYA requirement to have working engines for this course but (weather permitting) we do use two additional working engines on craft based at the School. The course takes the form of a lecture and question and answer session followed by 'hands-on' the engines in the afternoon. The RYA course booklet forms the syllabus and is kept by the student at the end of the course.
Tea and coffee provided.
Please bring a packed lunch.
Hours daily are 0930 - 1700hrs.
